The Waterfall Room

Emily Stebbins, Alicia Ginardi and Joline Bassett

Alicia Ginardi has been a guide in the Waterfall room since 2009.  She is passionate about meeting the needs of each individual child and providing an environment that is nurturing where children can make their own discoveries and pursue their individual interests each day.  Alicia has over 15 years experience working in a Montessori school in various capacities including five years as Head of School at Children’s House of Durango Montessori in Durango, Colorado.  Alicia studied Biology with an emphasis on pre-medicine at Fort Lewis College in Durango Co.  She completed her A.M.S. Montessori Teacher’s training in 2008 and completed 24 course credits in Early Childhood Development to receive her Directors Certification.  Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband, Craig and their dog Ava.  Her interests include hiking, biking, reading, cooking and sewing.  Alicia has also worked on creating floats for the Pasadena Rose Parade and the Portland Grand Floral Parade for over 20 years.

“I love being a part of this community of families, teachers and staff all dedicated to creating an environment for children that instills a life-long love of learning.” -Alicia

Joline Bassett joined the Harmony community as the Waterfall classroom co-teacher in June 2013.  She realized her love for young children while still a child herself, and began babysitting neighborhood children when she was ten years old.  It was when Joline was invited to be a last minute substitute in a friend’s Montessori school that the pieces fell together.  She continued working as an assistant while completing her Primary Associate Certification at the Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest in Seattle, Washington in 2004. Joline has over ten years of experience in the Montessori classroom, as an assistant, intern, Co-Teacher, and Lead Teacher.  Outside of the classroom, Joline enjoys spending time with her husband Brendon and their two boys, Loic (8), and Simeon (4), and their newest addition, Percy the fluffy dog.  She loves discovering new crafts to dabble in, and recently discovered that she actually enjoys running.  Joline has also worked recently as a certified Birth Doula.  She is now returning to the Montessori classroom after spending the past four years as a Stay At Home Mom.

Emily Stebbins joined the Waterfall room in October, 2013.  Having once been a Montessori child herself, she was always curious about Montessori as she explored education from different angles, studying Human Ecology and Spanish at Fairhaven College, working in preschools, coordinating a youth leadership program in Bellingham, WA and finally teaching outdoor education here in Portland.  Now she is excited to join the Harmony community.  When Emily isn’t playing music or playing outside with children, she is often doing one of those things with her husband Chris, or cuddling with their cats Sam and Scout.
